Now, I think it is a great thing that one of the most famous people in the world gives his face to draw attention to the most urgent issue of our time, the devastation of our planet through our own hands, or how most people call it, "climate change". I also think, however, that you should -and easily can- look past that fact. Secondly, I have to say that Leonardo DiCaprio is a really bad actor in it. For one, this is an exceptional documentary and works wonderfully as a piece of enlightenment. Two things I want to put first right here. The documentary is a good introduction to the complexity and issue of climate change, and I highly recommend checking it out. After DiCaprio’s research and travels, he attends an international meeting as a spokesperson to advocate environmental awareness and encourage change to every attending nation. Leo also spoke to experts who hope to improve the climate issues such as the GigaFactory CEO, professors with socio-economic and political insight, and President Obama himself on the matter. Leonardo DiCaprio, the director and investigator of the documentary, documented his experiences of traveling around the world and found how several environments are negatively affected in biodiversity and climate conditions. Leonardo The movie gave a descriptive broad overview of the environmental status of the world and how climate change has affected many biomes, as well as humans’ current attempt to create significant impacts in sustaining current ecosystems and repair lament deteriorating ecosystems. The film wants to spur individual changes in behavior, but there’s a fair amount in it that might discourage you from even trying. The movie gave a descriptive broad overview of the environmental status of the world and how climate change has affected many biomes, as well as humans’ current attempt to create significant impacts in sustaining current ecosystems and repair lament deteriorating ecosystems. DiCaprio’s globe-hopping has pinned the problem on corporate and political interests that seem vast and entrenched. Stop electing climate-change deniers.Īnd yes, those things might help incrementally. Stop buying products that use palm oil (whose production degrades rain forests), if you can figure out which those are. ![]() Carnivores should eat less beef and more chicken, we’re told, because raising cattle damages the planet more than raising chickens does. This film promises early on to set itself apart by detailing specific things individuals can do to mitigate the environmental damage, but those suggestions end up being disappointingly few. But anyone who has paused even briefly on a nature or science program on television has seen such images repeatedly, often with faces just as famous as Mr. DiCaprio, acting in his capacity as a designated United Nations Messenger of Peace, visits melting ice fields, flies over a bleak petroleum landscape, pats an Indonesian elephant, and so on. The film, by Fisher Stevens, follows the usual bearing-witness template of the celebrity-with-a-message genre. It’s a documentary in which Leonardo DiCaprio sounds the alarm about global warming, something that could not possibly have escaped anyone’s attention in recent years and is at this point probably beyond discussion: Either you think climate change is real or you don’t, and the battle lines aren’t likely to be shifted by an earnest movie star. Even if you subscribe to the view that a problem isn’t a problem until a Hollywood celebrity tells you it is, “Before the Flood” feels out of phase.
